Welcome to Year 6!

Your child will receive homework each week to support their classroom learning. Homework books will be given out each Tuesday and collected the following Monday.  Weekly homework will also include reading, times tables and spellings which will be tested on a regular basis (spellings – Monday). Children should read to parents/guardians and a record should be kept in the new reading records.

If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s homework please feel free to contact me. In order to do homework effectively children will need pencils, a ruler, rubber and colouring pencils. Your support with homework will be a great help.

Kit consists of the school t-shirt, black shorts and trainers or P.E. shoes. Football shirts are not appropriate. As some of the work will be outdoor, children will also need a jumper and jogging bottoms as the weather becomes colder. We do not have spare kit in school so it is essential that children come to school equipped for every P.E lesson. Other P.E events may occur during the week so bringing kit each Monday and taking it home for washing on Fridays works well and ensures children have the necessary equipment.

Children in Year 6 will learn to play a String instrument this year. Our lessons will take place on a Thursday afternoon – please ensure your child brings their instrument on this day.

After School Clubs

As usual, there will be many After School Clubs starting up. If they cannot attend for a particular reason, please inform school by phone or provide a written note. Please make sure your child is collected on time. All dates for each club are on the timetable provided when signing up. Sign up this year will be through Parent Mail.

Playtime Snack

As we are a ‘Healthy School’, children are encouraged to bring a named water bottle to school to keep in the classroom so that they can have a drink when they need one. This should be taken home each night, cleaned, and returned full the following day. They are also welcome to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat at break time. We also have our school healthy tuck shop where snacks are available at break-time for 50p.

This year the SATs will be the week beginning Monday 11th May 2020. This is a very important week for your child as these are the end of Key Stage Statutory Attainment Tests. Please avoid booking family holidays around this time as they will not be authorised. We also have assessments in other year groups at this time too!

Please remember that all key dates and latest school news can be found on our school Facebook page. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me by coming into school, phone or email.

Thank you for your support.
