Welcome to Year 6!

Our two Year 6 classes are 6LC (taught by Miss Lawrence and Mr Clayton) and 6P (taught by Miss Parvin). In the Year 6 team, we also have Mrs Grainge and Miss Kitchener supporting our learning.

School Day

The School day in Year 6 starts at 8:40am and ends at 2:55pm

Half termly information books are sent home at the start of each new term. This includes an overview of what your child will be learning in each year group, weekly spellings, weekly times tables and a homework project activity grid. Spellings are tested on a Wednesday and times tables on a Friday. Your support with learning spellings and times tables is greatly appreciated. Times Table Rockstars is encouraged at home to practise times tables. One homework project (linked to the school topic) should be selected to complete across the half term. Children are encouraged to read to parents/guardians at home on a daily basis for 10 minutes. Reading should be recorded weekly on our Marvellous Me Reading Log.

P.E kit consists of: a school t-shirt, navy/black shorts and trainers. Children will also need a jumper and jogging bottoms as the weather becomes colder. School hoodies are available from Motif8. Please send your child in full PE kit on P.E days. This year our P.E days in Year 6 are on a Monday and Friday.

Children in Year 6 will learn to play a brass instrument this year. Our lessons will take place on a Thursday afternoon – please ensure your child brings their instrument on this day.

After School Clubs

As usual, we have many After School Clubs taking place each half term. If your child cannot attend for a particular reason, please inform school by phone or provide a written note. Please make sure your child is collected on time. Sign up this year will be through Parent Mail

Playtime Snack

As we are a ‘Healthy School’, children are encouraged to bring a named water bottle to school to keep in the classroom so that they can have a drink throughout the day. This should be taken home each night, cleaned, and returned full the following day. They are also welcome to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat at break time.

This academic year, KS2 SATs will take place on Monday 9th May 2022 – Thursday 12th May 2022.This is a very important week for your child as these are the end of Key Stage Statutory Attainment Tests. Please avoid booking family holidays around this time as they will not be authorised. We also have assessments in other year groups at this time too!

We will send updates on your child’s learning, key reminders and rewards via Marvellous Me. Our reading records have also moved virtually this year and should be completed weekly via Marvellous Me.
