This year the children have a very exciting year ahead of them, learning about some very interesting themes, concepts and skills! These include: What is significant about Europe? Why do we know so much about Ancient Egypt? How are rivers and the water cycle linked? Our class teachers are Miss McNally and Miss Sullivan. Also working in our classroom, we are very lucky to have the support of Mrs Johnston, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Saunders. In addition, teaching the children PSHE is Mrs Badger and Miss Best for Spanish. Our start time is 8:45am (doors open at 8:40am) and pick up time is 3:15pm.
Reading
Please encourage your child to read at home every at least three times a week for 10-15 minutes as this will help progress their reading fluency and comprehension skills. Please refer to the parent guide that was sent home at the beginning of the year. School reading books will be changed when appropriate (at least once weekly). Records should be accessed through Microsoft Forms and completed at the end of each week.
Homework
Your child will be given a Unit Overview every half term which includes everything they will be learning. Within the Unit Overview, it will include their weekly spellings and times tables that they will be tested on each week. The children will have an option of six different homework projects that they will present and discuss during the last week of term. Please take the opportunity and enjoy creative time with your child. If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s homework please feel free to contact us. Homework is optional but your support with this will be a great help.
P.E
Our P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday every week. Kit consists of the school PE t-shirt, navy shorts and trainers or P.E shoes. Football kits are not appropriate. As some of the work will be outdoors, children will also require a navy jumper and navy jogging bottoms as the weather becomes colder. We do not have spare kit in school, so it is essential that children come to school equipped for every P.E lesson. If your child cannot do P.E for a particular reason, please send a note to their class teachers. Earrings should be removed, if this can’t be done, please cover the earrings with medical tape or plasters. As well as this, children need to come with their hair tied back on these set days.
Water/Playtime Snack
As we are a ‘Healthy School’, children are encouraged to bring a full named water bottle to school each day with them so that they can have a drink when needed. This can be taken home each evening to be refilled and returned the following day. Children are also welcome to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat at break time – no nuts please, this is very important due to allergies amongst children and staff.
Other Information
Jewellery should be avoided but small studs are acceptable if necessary, although they must be taken out by the child for P.E.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to the year ahead!
Thank you for your continued support!
