Welcome to Year 3!

This year the children have a very exciting year ahead of them, learning about some very interesting topics! Our class teachers are Miss Dibden and Miss Sullivan and also working in our classroom, we are very lucky to have the support of Mrs Badger. Also teaching the children in Y3 is Mr Dunn for music and Miss Best for Spanish. Our start time is 8:40am and pick up time is 2:55pm. Please ensure you are on time for drop off and pick up regardless of other siblings in the school.

Reading

Please encourage your child to read at home every night for at least 10-15 minutes as this will help progress their reading fluency and comprehension skills. School reading books will be changed when necessary or able to. Records should be accessed through ‘MarvellousMe’ and completed at the end of each week.

Homework

Your child will be given a Topic Overview every half term which includes everything they will be learning. Within this Topic Overview, it will also include their weekly spellings and times tables that they will be tested on each week. The children will have an option of six different homework projects that they will present and discuss during the last week of term. Please take the opportunity and enjoy creative time with your child. If you have any concerns or questions about your child’s homework please feel free to contact us. Your support with homework will be a great help.

P.E

Our P.E days are Tuesday and Thursday every week. Kit consists of the school PE t-shirt, navy shorts and trainers or P.E shoes. Football kits are not appropriate. As some of the work will be outdoors, children will also require a navy jumper and navy jogging bottoms as the weather becomes colder. We do not have spare kit in school, so it is essential that children come to school equipped for every P.E lesson. If your child cannot do P.E for a particular reason, please send a note to their class teachers. Earrings should be removed, if this can’t be done, please cover the earrings with medical tape or plasters. As well as this, children need to come with their hair tied back on these set days.

Water/Playtime Snack

As we are a ‘Healthy School’, children are encouraged to bring a full named water bottle to school each day with them so that they can have a drink when needed. This can be taken home each evening to be refilled and returned the following day. Children are also welcome to bring a piece of fruit or vegetable to eat at break time – no nuts please, this is very important due to allergies amongst children and staff.

Music

Year 3 are learning how to play the glockenspiel. They will have weekly music lessons taught by our music specialist at Junction Farm, Mr Dunn.

Other Information

Jewellery should be avoided but small studs are acceptable if necessary, although they must be taken out by the child for P.E.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to the year ahead!

Thank you for your continued support!

Year 3 Team,

Miss Dibden and Miss Sullivan.
